Did you know October is National Pit Bull Awareness month? It’s a month when we celebrate what affectionate, gentle, and loyal dogs Pit Bulls truly are and bring awareness to myths vs facts.

A Pit Bull is not actually a breed. The term refers to several different dog breeds including the American Pit Bull Terrier, the American Staffordshire Terrier, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and the American Bully.

It’s not a secret that Pit Bulls have been labeled with a bad reputation but in reality, this is based more on the actions of humans and bad ownership than on the dogs themselves. Pit Bulls are eager to please and make loving family dogs when given proper training and socialization. So, get to know a Pit Bull this month then share your experiences and spread the word about this misunderstood “breed”. We are their voice so let’s all work to promote the truth, open the door for conversation, and build awareness.
